The Work Package 1 of the LipSTIC LabEx is devoted to the role of lipoproteins in mobilizing natural means of fighting cancer and inflammation.

Lipoproteins carry different natural compounds in the blood to the organs where they will be used. Different essential natural molecules transported in this way are involved in the fight against inflammation and cancer: polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), vitamins E and A for example. The modalities of absorption, transport and release of these molecules by lipoproteins are not yet fully understood. As in cardiovascular diseases, the deleterious role of LDL and the protective role of HDL have been demonstrated. Identifying the mechanisms underlying these properties is one of the objectives of LipSTIC.

Main objectives :

  • To improve the transport of lipophilic bioactive molecules across natural barriers via lipoproteins to target inflamed tissues.
  • To optimize the vectorization of lipophilic drugs to inflamed or transformed tissues while limiting drug toxicity using lipoproteins as drug nano-carriers.
  • To develop in silico modelling of molecule/lipoprotein complexes.
  • To patent these new nano-carriers, and accelerate their access to the market.
